Common questions
Hardwood installation guide questions
Use the answers to prepare for an assessment and written estimate.
01Does hardwood flooring need to acclimate before installation?+
Follow the instructions for the exact product. Requirements can depend on the product construction, packaging, installation method, subfloor, and normal occupied temperature and humidity. Ask the installer to document site readiness.
02Can hardwood be installed over concrete?+
Some engineered-wood products and installation systems are approved for concrete when the slab meets flatness, moisture, surface, and grade requirements. Confirm written manufacturer approval and the specified moisture-control system.
03Can original hardwood be repaired instead of replaced?+
Possibly. Board thickness, previous sanding, damage, movement, stains, missing areas, and the desired finish affect the decision. Ask for repair, refinishing, and replacement options to be priced separately.
04What should a hardwood installation estimate include?+
It should identify the exact product, quantity, waste, installation method, preparation, moisture-related work, transitions, stairs, trim, delivery, cleanup, schedule, warranties, payments, and change-order process.
05Who determines whether hardwood is suitable for my home?+
The independent flooring professional evaluates the property and product requirements. Get New Flooring makes introductions and does not inspect the home, select the product, set the price, or perform the installation.
